"This site is a tool that can be used as a resource for educators teaching at the middle and secondary school grade level for incorporation into classroom lessons or presentation preparation, also as a resource for teacher education programs and curriculum developers. It allows for a more hands-on learning approach that could result in a clearer understanding of the material."

Reviewer for SciLinks/National Science Teachers Association

"SIMPLE Science provides engaging and content-rich learning activities for the 5 – 8 classroom. The activities are particularly useful with my ELL students because challenging higher-level thinking practices can be accessed through visual cues and problem solving with less of a need for strong language skills. This enables the ELL student to continue development of his or her intelligence and content knowledge while learning the local language. I definitely will use the 'Cyber Sleuth,' 'Hand It to the Animals,' and 'Taking Temperatures' lessons with my middle school students. ...Your site is great (thought-provoking, interesting, accurate, and with activities relevant to the needs of the 21st century learner). I plan to tell other teachers about how useful it will be with all students, particularly ELL students."

ELL Teacher, Grades 5-8, Mesa, Arizona

"Both of the lessons I reviewed would work well in an anatomy class or in biology classes. However, I think one area to which they are well-suited is in research classes or in classes with a large inquiry focus. Students may use a unit such as 'Hand It to the Animals' to explore relationships. Once the skills are introduced in the unit, students alone, or in teams, may use the skills to ask and test their own questions. For the lesson on different horse gaits, gallops, runs… a student could take images (with permission) of runners, or shot putters, or javelin throwers and compare improvement over one or more seasons or differences in throwing patterns, etc."

Chemistry Teacher, Grades 9-12, Portland, Oregon

"Short enough for middle schoolers and easy to use. ... I like the fact that it's Web-based."

Middle-school Science Teacher, Phoenix, Arizona

"I shared the math lesson that involves rise over run, or the slope of ramps. We did it as a part of our technology block. As a teacher it was wonderful that the student record sheet was already prepared; this saved valuable time. The students loved being able to use the imaging tools to measure the ramps and calculate the slope. It’s amazing how engaged the students are when they are able to interact with the technology. ... They really stayed tuned in to learning, and I will use more of the lessons for exploratory time later in the year and will include more lessons next year."
